What Does An SEO Manager Do?

SEO Manager

SEO stands for ‘Search Engine Optimisation.’ SEO is a skill that is used to improve the positioning and the appearance of web pages in organic search results. Organic search is the most popular way for people to find, discover, and follow online content. Having a good SEO strategy is essential for improving the quality and quantity of traffic to your website.

When it comes to digital marketing, there are hundreds of different job roles. One of these job roles is an SEO manager. Have you considered getting a job in this field but aren’t 100% sure what an SEO manager does? Here is what an SEO manager does daily.

 What Is An SEO Manager?

An SEO manager is a professional who is responsible for designing and implementing an SEO strategy within a company. An SEO manager can be employed at a digital marketing agency or work in-house at a company as part of a marketing team.

What Does An SEO Manager Do?

SEO managers engage in SEO work at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels. SEO managers complete competitor analysis and market research, they work to generate link-building opportunities by emailing other websites and asking them to post blog posts for them with links to the company website or specific products that they are selling. They also work to increase trust and credibility for their website.

SEO managers can be responsible for leading a team of SEO specialists, they may have to provide training and guidance to those who have just started. They delegate tasks while collaborating closely with the customer to ensure alignment between marketing activities and business goals.

Here are some of the main tasks that an SEO manager does:

 Content Strategy

Content strategy is the planning, development, and management of content in written form or other forms of media. SEO managers are responsible for developing this content strategy. Having effective content makes the company and brand more trustworthy and gives the company more credibility. SEO managers take part in the creation of content strategy and take the time to create content briefs for a copywriter or themselves.

 Keyword Research

Keyword research is when you use SEO tools such as Ahrefs or SEMrush to find and analyse particular search terms that people enter into search engines. Once you find these words you can use them throughout your website and your content. As part of their job, an SEO manager conducts keyword research to identify which keywords the company should be using within their SEO content.

 Manage Website Content

Most of an SEO manager’s time is spent working on the company’s website. SEO managers direct the teams who oversee content and ensure that they are using the correct keywords throughout the content that they are creating to ensure that the company is appearing on the search engine result page. SEO managers are consistently checking the website and looking at what content needs to be improved and updated. SEO managers also research what competitor sites are doing well and use their websites as a template.

 Market Analysis

A market analysis thoroughly assesses a market within a specific industry. SEO managers oversee performing a market analysis. To be an SEO manager you need to understand what the market forecast is like for the industry that you are working in and how you can increase traffic to your website. SEO managers need to be able to leverage their knowledge of market research to figure out the best way to reach customers online.

 On-Page and Technical SEO

Another responsibility of the SEO manager is to increase website traffic through on-page and technical SEO. On-page SEO is the optimisation of individual web pages around a particular keyword to help gain more search traffic around this keyword. Technical SEO is when you are auditing and improving the technical side of the website to make the site more accessible to humans and machine users.

 Data Analysis

SEO managers use data from sites such as Google Analytics to help them view their website traffic and understand which web pages or search queries are generating the most traffic, sales, and leads for their clients.

 Build Online Communities

A company’s online presence is reflected in the online communities that they create. A company that operates large communities tends to see a significant return on investment (ROI) in resources spent to foster these communities. Being able to stay connected with your customers online is a terrific way for your company to develop relationships with your customers.
