Getting past creative blocks can be a challenge, I am currently going through a creative block right now which is where the inspiration for this blog post has come from. Everyone has gone through a creative block at one point or another. Just remember that it is not uncommon to feel uninspired or creatively drained. Creative blocks can look different to everyone. Here are some tips that may help you get past this creative block you are currently going through.
Get Some Fresh Air
Spending time outside, and getting some proper fresh air gives us a new perspective and helps to nourish our creativity. Our top tip: get moving, stretch your legs, and take a walk! Getting outside will make you feel so much better.
Talk To Other Creatives
Network and talk to other creatives, conversations always bring up and inspire new ideas. Turning to people in your creative industry can help you to feel stimulated again and get through this creative block. It is also always nice to know that you are not alone, and other creatives go through this too.
Do not Fight Your Creative Block
It is okay to walk away from your work and come back to it. Take a break and do something you love or do another piece of work; you never know when inspiration will suddenly hit you and help you out of this creative slump.
Do A Brain Dump
It can be helpful to write all of your ideas down. Put your ideas down on paper or in your notes app. Do not over analyse the ideas or worry about them making sense. The main goal here is to create something that will allow you to see all of the different ways that you can approach to get past your creative block. When you begin to write everything down, you might start seeing connections and options you did not see before. This can also help you to produce new ideas.
Stop Chasing Perfection
Perfectionism can be the cause of a creative block. There is no such thing as perfect. Do not let the fear of imperfection stop you from creating something epic. You need to realise that not everything you create will be a masterpiece, but someone will love it and that is what matters. Do not let perfectionism stop you from creating brilliant content.
Switch Up Your Routine
Routines can be helpful for creative individuals. However sometimes when you hit a creative block, switching up your routine can help you get past this roadblock. The different ways that you can switch up your routine are by going for a walk or to the gym before work, working from a coffee shop, starting work earlier/ later, etc. Changing your routine every now and then can help to get those creative juices flowing again.
Put Your Technology Away
Put all of your technology away. With the majority of us, technology has overtaken our lives, technology can be a drain on our brains. We all need downtime, whether that is reading a book, doing something you love, going outdoors, exercising, etc. Creative blocks can be caused when your brain is constantly plugged into technology.
Try Meditation
Practicing meditation daily can positively impact your mental health. Meditation increases your focus, patience, and insight. Try 5 minutes of meditation every morning or evening; this could be effective and get your creative juices flowing.
Use A Time Management Tool
If you are someone who always finds themselves getting distracted, then try a time management tool. If you are constantly getting distracted, it is unlikely that you will overcome this creative block that you are currently going through. A lot of us come up with new ideas during periods when we are unfocused and our minds are wandering.
Stimulate Your Senses
Did you know that we can use our five senses to stimulate creative flow? Our smell is one of our most powerful senses because of the connection it has to memory. For example, close your eyes, and think about what you can smell, does this remind you of anything, can you turn this opportunity into a content opportunity?
